Homenetmen-GAMK is Montreal's chapter of Homenetmen, the worldwide Armenian athletic and scouting union. For more than 65 years, we have brought young Armenians together through sports and scouting.
The name Homenetmen comes from the initials of its Armenian title, the Armenian General Union of Physical Education and Scouts: Հայ Մարմնակրթական Ընդհանուր Միութիւն
Homenetmen-GAMK is a non-profit organization that runs both sports and scouting programs. Membership is open to every Armenian.
Montreal was home to Homenetmen's very first chapter in Canada, founded in 1958. The chapter later joined forces with the local Gamk club and became Homenetmen-GAMK. Today our volunteers run teams in five sports, nine scouting groups, and a marching band.
Elevate yourself, and others with you. Our organization grows through the notion of giving back to the youth.
To help young people of Armenian background develop their physical, intellectual, and spiritual strengths, as individuals and as responsible members of their community and society.
To engage young people of Armenian background in their own self-fulfillment and in a lasting appreciation of their national heritage.
Homenetmen grew out of a dream of uniting Armenian athletes. After that dream survived the Armenian Genocide, it spread to Armenian communities around the world, including ours in Montreal.
Shavarsh Krissian launches Marmnamarz, an Armenian sports magazine, and begins working to unite Armenian sports clubs.
His surviving colleagues founded Homenetmen in Constantinople in November, carrying his vision forward.
More than fifty chapters open across the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas.
Homenetmen's first Canadian chapter is founded here in Montreal.
Homenetmen's Canada Regional Committee is formed as chapters grow across the country.
Homenetmen-GAMK counts more than 700 members across athletics, scouting, and band.
Whether you want to play, scout, march with the band, or give your time as a volunteer, there is a place for you at Homenetmen-GAMK Montreal.
